Meet our Staff


Dr. Michael Casler

Dr. Casler, a graduate of Cornell University Veterinary College, joined Guilderland Animal Hospital in 1969.  He is a member of numerous veterinary societies including the American Veterinary Medical Society, American Animal Hospital Association, New York Veterinary Medical Society, Capital District Veterinary Medical Society, American Veterinary Dental Society, AAHA Council of 100, Veterinary Surgical Laser Society, and is on the Executive Board of the Cornell Veterinary College Alumni Association (President 2004-Present).  His professional interests include surgery, laser surgery, dentistry, and oncology.  His hobbies include music (Mendelssohn Club of Albany), reading, gardening, and boating.  He is an avid college sports fan.  He is married with three children. His pets include a cat and two Cairn Terriers.  

Dr. Mark Caravaty

Dr. Caravaty graduated from Cornell University Veterinary College and became a part of the GAH family in 1980.  He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Society, American Animal Hospital Association, New York Veterinary Medical Society, and the Capital District Veterinary Medical Society.  His hobbies include traveling, golf, pool, computers and sailing.  He is the proud father of a son and two daughters.  He shares his home with a Saint Bernard and three cats.


Dr. Melodee Kopa

Dr. Kopa joined the GAH family in 1988 after graduating from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.  She enjoys small animal medicine and opthalmology.  She is married and has two children.  Her family also includes three diving Golden Retrievers and two active cats.


Dr. Amy Scarpinato

Dr. Scarpinato joined us in 2001 after receiving her DVM degree from Cornell University.  She received honors in History and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1995 with a double major in Biology and History.   She has been a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for 10 years and has worked with many native wildlife species.  Her areas of interest include Internal Medicine and Behavior.  Her hobbies include cross-stitch, reading, the outdoors, and traveling with her boyfriend.  Her family includes six cats and two dogs.


Dr. Joseph Dreels

Dr. Dreels joined the Guilderland Animal Hosital family in February 2007.  He Graduated in 1985 from the University of Illinois where he received his DVM degree.  Dr. Dreels also holds a Masters degree in Dairy Science from the University of Illinois.  He previously owned a mixed (small and large) animal practice in central New York for 11 years.  Dr. Dreels enjoys working with animals and their owners.  He shares his home with 2 cats "Blazer" and "L.T.".   When not working Dr. Dreels enjoys golf, gardening, good food and wine. 


Dr. Cristy Towers

Dr. Towers graduated in 2007 from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and joined the GAH family.  She enjoys hiking, skiing and spending time with her husband Jason and their two Golden Retrievers "Camper" and "Buddy".     


Mary Jarvis, LVT

Mary Jarvis is one of seven Licensed Veterinary Technicians here at the Guilderland Animal Hospital.  She has been with us for 28 years.  Mary graduated from SUNY Delhi with her degree in Veterinary Science.  In her spare time she takes great pride in showing dogs in conformation and obedience, gardening, and drawing.  She shares her home with a Bull Terrier named "Harry", a Yorkshire Terrier named "Leroy", a Bull Terrier "U", and two cats named "Fred" and "Spencer".  Because of Mary's love for Bull Terriers, she assists Bull Terrier breeders in the birth of new puppies and any behavioral problems that may occur. 

 


Bonnie Selke, LVT

Bonnie has been a part of the GAH staff since 1988 after graduating from SUNY Delhi.  She shares her home with her husband Ernie and their two house rabbits "Gordon Whitefoot" and "Gwendolyn".  Some of Bonnie's hobbies include gardening, golf, and traveling.


Dolores Leonard, LVT

Dolores became a part of the GAH staff in 2001 after graduating from Medaille College with a degree in Veterinary Science.  She is the proud mother of two children, Troy and Keyarra, the light of her life.  She  belongs to three lovable labs, "Tasha" a black lab, "Heidi" a chocolate lab and "Hunter" aka "Doofus" a yellow lab.


Dawn Lieberman, LVT

Dawn graduated from SUNY Delhi in 2004 with a degree in Veterinary Science and joined the GAH family.  She loves to spend time with her family, friends, and of course her animals. Her professional interests include dentistry, surgery, and ultrasound.  In her spare time Dawn enjoys baking. 


Amanda Breyette, LVT

Amanda graduated from SUNY Canton in 2005 with a degree in Veterinary Science and joined the GAH family.  She also graduated from SUNY Canton in 2007 with her Bachelors degree in Veterinary Services Management.  Her hobbies include reading, horseback riding, shopping, photography, and computers. She also enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and her cats "Patch" and "Jack".


Dana Weir, LVT

Dana joined the GAH family in October 2006.  She graduated from SUNY Delhi in 2003 with her degree in Veterinary Science and from SUNY Cobleskill in 2005 with her Bachelors degree in Animal Science.  Dana belongs to two dogs named "Pisces" and "Tyler", three cats "Amy", "Bugaboo" and "Andy" and a horse named "Shea".  In her spare time Dana enjoys camping, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and baking. 


Robin Huskie, LVT

Robin joined the GAH family in 2007.  She graduated from SUNY Oneonta in 2003 with a Bachelors degree in Biology and Chemistry.  Robin then went back to school and graduated from Medaille College in 2007 with a degree in Veterinary Science.  In her spare time she loves to hang out with her cat "Daisy", her rabbits "Jessie" and "James", and her two guinea pigs "Teddy" and "Roosevelt". 


Amy Gruett

Amy joined the GAH family in May of 1985.  She is one of our dedicated Veterinary Assistants.  Amy shares her home with her husband Tom and their two children, Ali and Daniel.  Her family also includes two cats, "Mittens" and "Amy", along with two guinea pigs "Andy" and "Rick".


Mellissa Gumlaw

Mellissa joined the GAH family in 2005.  She  is one of our veterinary assistants.  Mellissa is currently in college working towards her PhD in Psychology.  Once she receives her degree she hopes to practice child psychology.  In her free time she enjoys reading, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends.  She belongs to a playful Golden Retriever named "Luke". 


Kristin Briggs

Kristin joined the GAH family in March 1996 and is one of our dedicated kennel staff.  She belongs to a dog named "Kody", 3 cats named "Vash", "Sneakers" and "Willie", a bird named "Sage", and 2 rats named "Tsunami" and "Sasami". 


Emilie Diamond

Emilie is one of our dedicated kennel staff who has been a part of the GAH family since 2000.  She enjoys working with the animals.  She shares her home with a dog "Maggie" and two cats named "Jack" and "Justice".


Amanda Hladik

Amanda joined the Guilderland Animal Hospital staff in 2006 and is one of our dedicated kennel staff.  She enjoys fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with her husband.  Amanda belongs to four dogs, "Brutus, "Nikita", "Yukon" and "Sadie", a cat named "Aries"  and 3 finches.

Judy has been apart of the GAH staff since 1995.  She is the proud mother of three children.  She shares her home with a Bernese Mountain dog and two cats.  Judy enjoys music and reading.

Jamie Tannatta

After being a client for 14 years, Jamie joined the GAH team in 2002. She shares her home with her husband Aaron, two sons, Aaron and Calen, a Golden Retriever named "Sahara", two Pit Bulls named "Isaac" and "Bettis" along with two cats "Sophie" and "Macey". 


Lauri Amsden

Lauri Amsden is one of our receptionists and has been with us for fifteen years.  Lauri enjoys cooking, gardening and fishing.  Along with her husband, she shares her home with seven cats, "Jasmine", "Skinny", "Charlotte" ,"Anastasia", "Fender", "Squeek", and " Spice".


Linda Alescio

Linda began her time with GAH in our Crosstown office in 2001.  She is the proud mother of her three children and five grandchildren.  She has two dogs and three cats.  She enjoys gardening, jazz music, knitting, crocheting, and just taking walks.


Wendy Matulewicz

Wendy has been a part of the GAH family since 2003.  She enjoys volleyball, hanging out with family and friends, along with drawing, painting, and photography.  She belongs to four cats.
